Walker Author Tours Presents….
Spin the Plate (Revised Edition)
by Donna Anastasi
Newly revised novel, new tour!
A tattoo artist by day, Jo roams the streets of Boston at night to forget her past and feed her two passions: rescuing mistreated creatures and inflicting bodily harm on their perpetrators. Unassuming and unafraid, Francis, a man harboring a secret of his own, is the one person Jo can’t seem to scare off.
Spin the Plate has been revised, re-edited, and expanded!
One October morning in 2008 as Donna Anastasi was taking the 65 mile daily commute across the width of Southern New Hampshire, she was (as C.S. Lewis once put it) struck by an idea. A childhood flashback, a woman named Jo, Jo’s story, and all those who influenced it came in crashing waves, demanding to be written. The result was a 30-something page story, largely written during every conceivable free minute over the next two weeks’ time; this work was recently self-published as Spin the Plate Short Story and is offered free on iTunes, Sony, Kindle, B&N Book Nooks, and Kobo.
Donna Anastasi is the author of two non-fiction small animal books both published by Bowtie press: a popular how to care for gerbils book and a chinchilla handbook promoting these exotic and intelligent creatures as companions, not coats. Spin the Plate is Anastasi’s debut novel, written in the 18 months after the initial story was penned.
One way Anastasi expanded the story into novel-length was using what she terms a “mosaic” approach. She’d ask a person who had had experienced or was an expert in an area needed for the book to write down their own story as if they were telling it to someone else. Then Anastasi would insert the book characters, Jo and Francis, into the scene. Other invaluable resources were Google and her husband, a playwright/Boston University Professor. In addition to keeping the dialog real, he is the inspiration behind the line in the book: “Jo wondered how any person could retain so much useless trivia.”
“Donna Anastasi’s debut fiction novel, Spin the Plate, takes the life of one incest survivor and spins the outcome for her in a beautiful, redemptive way.” –The Character Therapist
